Sweden Set To Ban BPA


Sweden is soon to become the first country in the world to ban the use of the controversial chemical bisphenol-A, or BPA, in food and beverage can linings. The European Union has already banned  BPA in baby bottles.  BPA is a chemical used in the production of plastic and epoxy resins, including those used to line canned foods.  Plastic products made with BPA are identified by the number 7 in the triangle on the bottom of the bottle or container.  
Very high doses of BPA have been linked to genetic damage, cancer, and diabetes in animals.  The U.S. FDA still considers BPA safe in products although many scientists have expressed concern.  Several major retailers no longer carry baby bottles that contain BPA.  Most canned foods have BPA.
