Can Dogs Detect Cancer?

A cancer research center in California, The Pine Street Foundation, just published a study showing it was possible to train dogs to identify which patients had lung and breast cancer based on breath samples. According to their research, there are certain chemical scents that are emitted from people with cancer and dogs are able to detect this scent due to their superior sense of smell. They are currently funding research training for dogs to detect early stage ovarian cancer. So who knows, the next time you go in for those medical tests, you may also have a scent test from a friendly pooch! You can read more about the study here.
