Ab Flab Myths

MYTH:
Ab flab is a natural consequence of getting older.
FACT: It's true that as we age, muscle mass declines, metabolism slows, and fat tends to collect around our middles.  BUT you can minimize the effects with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

MYTH:
Doing sit-ups can reduce abdominal fat.
FACT: Abdominal exercises, such as sit-ups, are a great way to strengthen your abdominal muscles and core, but they don't do a thing to get rid of the fat on top of them.  Daily cardio exercise, such as brisk walking, helps burn belly fat.

MYTH:
Menopause is the cause of your ab flab.
FACT:  It's true that menopause increases the storage of fat about your midsection, but a fat belly is not inevitable.  This time of life is usually associated with decreased physical activity and increased food intake.  Increasing your exercise and watching your food intake will help you to keep that ab flab off.
